I'm Spencer. I'm not nearly as obsessed with baseball as Aidan or Trevor, but would still be considered obsessed by most people. My team of choice is the Red Sox, because I live in Mass and they are the best team ever in the world. The Mets suck. Yes Aidan, its true. Anyway, I became a fan of the Red Sox in 2003, so you can't even say it was because they won the World Series.
So almost every day I am going to write a rundown of the previous night in the MLB.
Possible Playoff Match-Up:
Colorado beats Philadelphia, 8-3:
Philly is 5 games up on the Marlins, and the Rockies are tied for first in the NL Wildcard with the SF Giants. The Rockies have been overachieving for a while, and somehow they managed to get a decent performance from Jason Hammel (6.2 IP, 3 ER, 6K) which, coupled with a pretty bad start from Jamie Moyer, led the Rockies to the relatively easy win. Helping out Hammel was Garrett Atkins, who went 2 for 3 with a HR and 4 RBI.
Pitching Performance of the Night:
Yusmeiro Petit, ARI: 8 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 4 K vs. Pittsburgh
Definitely Petit. He lowered his ERA almost a full run to 5.81 after his dominating performance. He even took the no-hit bid into the eighth. But this guy still does suck, considering his 4 Ks and his opponent, the Pirates, whose best hitters are Andrew McCutchen and Garrett Jones. The D-Backs won 6-0.
Offensive Performance of the Night
Albert Pujols, STL: 4 for 5, 2 HR, 2B, 3 R, 5 RBI, 1 BB vs. New York Mets
This guy will not stop. Even against one of the best pitchers of the decade, Johan Santana, he has a monster game. Of course, Pujols himself is arguably the best hitter this decade, because frickin' 'roids don't count, Mr. Bonds. The 2 HR last night gave Albert 36 for the year, which is 4 more than the next closest, Mark Reynolds. He also leads the league in RBI with 97. The Cards won 12-7 in 10 innings.
Also, the Red Sox lost sadly 4-2. Thanks to Daniel Bard (who blew the save) and Evan Longoria, who hit a HR to tie it in the 8th, and another to win it in the 13th.
