Finally, Johan Santana got it. He has to pitch well, and be the offense, and he did just that, going 2/3 with a walk, and an RBI. The other notable offensive performances were Anderson Hernandez (2/3, walk, RBI), Jeff Francoeur (2/4) and Murphy and Castillo (2/5). Every Met got a hit except for Wright and Pagan. Santana got his 13th win, to tie the Majors, by going 8 strong, allowing 5 hits, a run, 2 walks and struck out 4. The lack of strike outs in worrying, but Santana did get 12 ground outs, compared with 8 flyouts. The Mets scored one in the second, when Anderson Hernandez brought in Francoeur, scored 3 in the 6th, and added one in the 9th, when Murphy's little flair to left brought home Pagan.
But back to Johan: His velocity was about normal,(click to make bigger)
and the fastball changeup differential was good. He induced groundballs, and overall, he pitched well.
Francisco Rodriguez came in the 9th with a four run lead, but held San Diego.
The Mets have pick #10.
Stupid Decision of the Day: None. Overall, a good game.
Random Thought of the Day: Those Padres uniforms kind of suck.
Clutch Play of the Game: Santana RBI single in 6th. +13.6%WPA.
Up Next for the Mets: 3 game series with Diamondbacks
Mike Pelfrey (8-7 4.75 ERA, 4.20 FIP, 4.86 tRA) makes his first start as a father
Doug Davis (6-10 3.67 ERA, 4.57 FIP, 5.15 tRA)
